International Court of Justice (ICJ)

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) is the United Nations' main judicial body (UN). The United Nations Charter established it in June 1945, and it began functioning in April 1946. The Court's headquarters are in The Hague's Peace Palace (Netherlands). It is the only one of the United Nations' six main organs that are not based in New York (United States of America). The Court's role is to resolve legal disputes brought to it by States in line with international law, as well as to provide advisory opinions on legal problems addressed to it by authorised United Nations institutions and specialised agencies. The Court resolves international disputes based on the voluntary participation of the parties involved. The International Court of Justice is made up of a board of 15 adjudicators who are appointed by the UN General Assembly and Security Council for nine-year tenure. Furthermore, the Court as a whole must represent the world's most important civilizations and legal systems. In terms of sustaining world order and ensuring easy dispute resolution between nations, the ICJ debate is perhaps the most important
